We then switch perspectives to Shizuka Satomi, a legendary violin teacher nicknamed the Queen of Hell looking for her 7th and final student. It's a pretty strong opening, and I was immediately invested in her journey. It opens on a trans girl named Katrina who is running away from home to go to LA.

I had no idea if it was fantasy or sci-fi, what was the setting or who were the characters. I figured it was for some bingo square last year that I ended up filling with something else, or maybe a friend's recommendation, and for fun I decided to start it without reading the synopsis or anything. Light from Uncommon Stars was in my library for a little while, and I had forgotten why I had downloaded it. I'm basically going to describe here my thoughts on the book through the first hour or so of the Audiobook. But if you need more reason to check it out I won't be spoiling more than the basic premise. I will be including minor spoilers below so if you want to do as I recommend, leave now and just read it. It's emotional, it's real, it's funny, and it has some of my favorite characters in any book I've read. I think this book is a straight up 10/10 and I think everyone should check it out. I went into this book completely blind, and I recommend you do to. This is going to be a quick review of Light from Uncommon Stars by Ryka Aoki.
